In the state of Texas the state minimum liability limit is 25,000 / 50,000 / 25,000 this coverage is to cover the designated policy holder when they are in an accident with another person or object.
This minimum liability limit is state mandated and must be carried. With new laws and new technology police officers may now find out through a state database if your auto insurance is current. If you are found without carrying at least the minimum liability then your vehicle may be towed. The owner then will be responisble for obtaining insurance and have to pay for their vehicle to be released from the impound lot.
Through Chase Insurance Service you can get Liability insurance for as little as $30.00 a month. So call us today for your free quote 903.356.6500 or fill out our Request A Quote form.
Texas Auto Insurance Definitions
Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability
Bodily injury liability covers the designated driver or policy holder if they are injured in an auto accident or if they injure others. If you have family members listed on your policy, they are also covered if driving another person’s vehicle with their permission. If you opt for the minimum liability coverage, be careful the amount you purchase may not completely cover you if you are involved in a serious accident or are served with a lawsuit. Buying more than the state required minimum will protect your assets like your home, boat, and savings if you get into an accident. You also need to think about the high value cars that are out on the road now days.
The average price of a new vehicle is still rising and is now probably around $30,000 so if you are only carrying $25,000 in coverage the rest will have to come out of your pocket.
Medical Payments
Medical payments (or personal injury protection plans) pay for the care of injuries to the driver and passengers of the policyholder’s car in the event of an accident. Depending on the amount of coverage you choose, medical payments coverage can cover medical costs, lost wages, and possible funeral costs.
Collision
Collision coverage covers damage to your car that results from a collision with another vehicle or object. This type of coverage also covers your car against damage from pot holes, or if it flips over. You can choose a relatively low deductable or a high one but keep in mind that a higher deductable will result in a lower premium.
Comprehensive
If you car is stolen or is damaged by something other than a collision with another car or object (i.e. fire, falling objects, missiles, explosions, hail, vandalism, etc.). Comprehensive insurance will also reimburse you if your windshield is cracked or shattered. Some companies offer glass coverage with or without a deductible. Comprehensive coverage is also listed on some polices as Other Than Collision.
Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage
If you are hit by an uninsured driver, or are the victim of a hit and run accident, this type of coverage will reimburse you, a member of your family, or a designated driver.
Underinsured motorist coverage is used when an at-fault driver does not have enough insurance to pay for the costs to repair your vehicle. This coverage can also come into play if you are hit as a pedestrian.
